19.11. - The way Scott McTominay , an important but unwanted substitute for Manchester United, has developed in recent years is literally giving me goosebumps. Where did the "Scottish Maradona" come from? And he still hasn´t found his ceiling. He got Scotland to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, and he also cut a luxurious pair of scissors against Denmark.

Scott McTominay is a Scotsman by heart and soul, but he was born in Lancaster, England, and has played for Manchester United since 2002. He made his debut for the famous Old Trafford club in 2017 under Mourinho. However, he was never fully appreciated and was often heavily criticised. The turning point for him was Erik ten Hag´s last full season, when he scored 7 goals in the Premier League as a substitute, the vast majority of which brought Manchester United key points. McTominay was a hero and won over the fans. Erik ten Hag didn´t want him, so he moved from Manchester for the first time and signed for Napoli .

McTominay has grown incredibly

The third coming of Maradona. That´s how some Partenopei fans describe McTominay´s arrival. The first titles for this club were won by the divine Diego, the third by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the fourth by McTominay himself last season. In Serie A, he scored 12 goals and 6 assists, after which he was named player of the year and nominated for the Golden Ball. Scott McTominay´s transformation from a defensive midfielder into a great box-to-box productive and technically perfect midfielder is almost unreal. It´s as if McTominay had swapped with his better double. It´s an absolutely fascinating story. Moreover, McTominay not only plays for Napoli but also for the Scottish national team. With that, he has now achieved huge success.

Scotland is at the World Cup

Scotland played Denmark for direct qualification to the World Cup, where they were not favourites. After just three minutes, however, after a cross from the talented Doak McTominay cut a perfect scissor shot right to the post. After the change of sides, his Napoli teammate Hojlund equalised, but Kristensen was also shown a red card. Shankland gave Scotland the lead again, but miracles only happened in stoppage time. With the score at 2:2 after Dorgu´s equaliser, Kirean Tierney scored and McLean closed the score from almost half-way through the pitch. But what the world is most concerned about is Scott McTominay´s performance and wonderful goal again. He scored two goals in the qualifiers, both of which were hugely important. After 28 years at the World Cup, Scotland has made the Red Devils´ protégé a national hero.
